Strong growth potential for natural treatments
For French people, being healthy, respecting the body, and avoiding dependence and side effects are the main advantages of this category. They look for 100% natural formulas in these treatments, without chemical ingredients, with active ingredients of plant origin, without preservatives, and "Made in France". These promises reinforce user confidence in these treatments.
Users of natural treatments do not, however, reject conventional medicines, even if 14% refuse to use "chemical" medicines.
41% of French people use natural treatments to heal themselves. This figure includes users of homeopathy (25%), aromatherapy (19%), which are products exclusively based on essential oils, and phytotherapy (17%), exclusively based on plants.
4 out of 10 users of natural treatments have increased their use of natural products in the last two years. 75% of French people plan to use them in the future to heal themselves, which shows good growth potential for these products.
The main obstacle is a lack of knowledge about natural health options
Natural health options face two main barriers:
• 38% of the population feels poorly informed about natural treatments.
• 32% have doubts about their effectiveness.
Increasingly widespread use
Today, 64% of French people who heal themselves with natural products are women, generally from higher socioeconomic categories, 41% have children, and 53% are under 45 years old.
However, the category is attracting more and more men (+12 percentage points of men versus the current profile) and people from lower socioeconomic categories (+14 percentage points of lower socioeconomic categories versus the current profile).
